022: Fish in a Tea Cup

They swirl around like green and brown aquarium fish. Daylight through the window catches along their spines and in their veins, glittering white. They flutter about, kissing the surface, breaching, then sinking to the bottom to rest a while. Fluttering like that must take a lot of strength. Strength that they do not have in their thin muscle-free bodies. Even if they wanted to soar, they could not. They are too weak, their lungs too small. They cannot breathe above the surface. So they stay, swirl around for a while, and finally sink to the murky bottom while someone drains the cup.
