076: A Conversation of Blues
You say you like INDIGO—more violet than blue, found in the rainbow and the 1978 Pride flag. I see your point. It is a shade to rival ROYAL and PERSIAN. Both are darker. You say TEAL and COBALT. I think of SPACE, hidden so deeply between the moon and the stars that we would get lost looking for it. We mention BERRIES that turn purple when mashed, SAPPHIRE that catches sunlight, and ELECTRIC with a flash of white. I like the sort of warm CYAN that has more green than blue—the one you find on the shores of Mediterranean bays, I say, then realise I have just described TURQUOISE. CORNFLOWER, you suggest, and I nod. I think its beauty comes from the evoked contrast of golden brown corn and light blue flowers, I say. You agree. It evokes a peaceful day in August, with wide-brimmed hats of straw and white gowns. We laugh. Oh, what literature studies have done to us. We look into the skies. CERULEAN.
