081: Letting Go
I walk along the outskirts of a small birchwood. It's just a stone's throw from where we live, and neighbouring families often go for walks there. Hearing children laugh and scream isn't unusual. When I hear two in the wood now, I'm not surprised. I can't make out what they're playing, but it sounds as though they're having fun. Their laugh echoes between the surrounding hills, and the birch leafs quiver in delight.
Then it goes quiet.
I stop.
The silence continues.
I consider trying to find them—maybe they tripped over roots or fell off a branch and hurt themselves? It's too quiet.
A warm wind brushes out between the trees. Twigs and branches rustle. Above, two seagulls burst through the leafage and soar into the sky.
