098: Berlin Nights
There is a certain type of music that I associate with late-night drives. It plays in the bubble where I am somewhere between asleep and awake, and the flashing lights of Berlin nights pass in a haze as we whiz along the autobahn at 130 or 140, passing trailer after trailer. From where I sit I see the red and blue lights of the dashboard and CD player. Mum and my sister are asleep. As far as dad knows, he is the only one awake, and will be the only one awake for several hours, until we reach the edge of Germany to see the sun rise over the hills of the Czech Republic. He plays his music quietly, but I still feel the beat reverberating through me as the drums and guitar-solos fill the late-night bubble. It is exhilarating. A little secret I will hide away in my mind, forgotten until I hear those songs. Then I will recall.
