107: The Flood of Wonder
Water trickles through the system of tubes and glass baubles, from the uppermost bauble that opens for a tap to the bottom one, where a mahogany pipe pours the water into a cup. As light flits in through the window, the glass shimmers and shines, and the water sparkles like jewels, breaking the light into rainbows that paint the floor. It is like watching the flood flow across the land, filling valley after valley until some are completely submerged and others stand half-filled, surfaces glittering in the sun, and one imagines that there are little worlds in each with fish and octopi exploring billowing sunflowers and oaks, and it is all perfectly silent as it swirls and dances and mesmerises the child watching it until the tap shuts off and the rainbows fade and the last drop dribbles into the cup.
