114: Fallen Eden

You saw it in its glory days, didn't you? Lush, bright, as though the colours and shapes had just been invented. In rustling voices they laughed, and in swishing whispers they conversed. Flowers sprung out of meadows and tree trunks, and branches arching with fruits spread above them like cathedral ceilings. And in the middle of it all, two human beings the size of insignificant gnats. They were just as awed by it as you, weren't they?

So why did they take the fruit? They must have known that it wouldn't go unnoticed.

And so did you. You have seen the devastations, haven't you? Flowers wilted, fruits rotted, trees fallen, roots dried, all burned by the sun. In time it was covered in darkness. All that was still is. But it is broken. Tangled. Twisted. Thwarted. Fear fills the rivers and death seeps into the ground, inch by inch, until there is nothing left. The rustles are scraping screams in the wind, and the whispers are weeping sobs. It pains you. Who would have thought that gnats could have such an impact on the turning of the world?
